Harvey was subjected to the horrendous attack, in which someone poured boiling hot tar over his head and back, while living in Eastern Europe where he was born last year. His ordeal tugged at the heartstrings of thousands of dog-lovers in Britain after gruesome pictures showing Harvey's injuries emerged on social media and in the news. Distressing photos show the mixed breed pooch coated in thick black tar, which is thought to have been taken from a building site then deliberately used as a weapon. Harvey's ordeal was clocked by workers at Mayflower Animal Sanctuary in Doncaster., who immediately set about raising money to pay for his treatment. Harvey after being attacked His story has now had a fairy-tale ending after enough money was raised not only to treat Harvey's injuries - but also to have him transported from Romania to the UK. The cheeky chappy is now living with a foster family until lockdown ends, when he will be on the lookout for his forever home. Adorable pictures taken on Friday show a healthy and happy Harvey looking satisfied in his soft new bed, where he has been dozing the days away since arriving. The pooch, christened Harvey on his arrival from Europe, was attacked with the tar in December. It stuck to the poor dog's fur and skin, causing him extreme pain and preventing him from being able to walk.

. In addition to the devastating injuries resulting from the boiling tar, the canine was also suffering from malnutrition, leading vets to believe he was a stray. Harvey was rescued by a canine clinic in Romania, where vets bathed him and used special lubricants to remove the sticky tar without damaging his skin any further. Once he was healthy enough, Mayflower Animal Sanctuary worked with the clinic to have him transported to the UK. A Mayflower spokesman said: "We just had to help - you never cease to be moved by the plight of animals requiring assistance without which they would not survive. "We worked together to ensure Harvey received the veterinary care he desperately required." They added: "Amazingly Harvey’s health is now really good. He seems extremely happy and just like a typical puppy. "He's full of life and a cheeky chappie, he's very curious and playful. "We hope Harvey will find his happy ever after with people who will love him and give him the best opportunities and experiences in order to become a happy, well-balanced dog. "We hope he lives life to the full."
