. WATCH: Moment Darcy rescues the dog from the lake in Pontefract Park "So I smashed through the ice without really thinking about it. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time." Unbeknown to Darcy, a bystander had begun to film his heroic actions in disbelief, as he saved the animal. Paula Town posted her footage online stating: "What a hero, this complete stranger rescued this family's dog when it got into trouble in Pontefract Park." Yet Darcy was unaware of this, as he continued to swim in the lake. Darcy added: "I didn't do it for a pat on the back. It was instinct. "I literally pushed the dog back to the side so it could get itself out. It was a small black dog, a cocker-poo maybe. "I didn't really register the people around - my neighbour offered his jacket and we carried on with our run. "It was nice to get the thanks but I wanted to make sure people know - it's not something you should do unless you're used to cold water. "A stick or similar would be better, as it wouldn't put anyone else in danger. "I personally think there should be safety barriers around the lake to prevent things like this happening again."
