World War II enthusiasts, fans of 1940s military memorabilia and those seeking a taste of the good old days are in for a treat when the Yorkshire Wartime Event comes to Heckmondwike this August Bank Holiday. Wartime aviation enthusiasts will be in for a treat with a flypast from a Lancaster Bomber and a Spitfire set on the Saturday and Sunday of the upcoming event. The event is supported by Brian and Andrea Leathley, organisers behind the hugely popular Haworth 1940s weekend and will feature flypasts, tea-dances and Big Band music of the era, with singing favourites Paul and Natasha Harper performing in the evenings to create wartime nostalgia for audiences. The exact times and dates for the flypasts are: Saturday 27 August, 2.50pm Lancaster Bomber; Sunday 28 August, 2.30pm, Spitfire. Howard Cook MBE, MD of Yorkshire Wartime Village, said: “We are really excited to be bringing the wartime spirit to Heckmondwike this August bank holiday. It’s a really great atmosphere and visitors will really get into the swing of it, wearing vintage clothing, enjoying living history displays and getting close to military vehicles.
