PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A grassroots community network has warned about wildlife crime as snares are decimating the animal population in the UK’s largest national parks. Moorland Monitors, a network of volunteers monitoring crime and cruelty, has recently reported illegal activity in the national parks such as the Peak District. The people responsible use snares to persecute and kill natural predators such as foxes, raptors, corvids and even badgers. This is most commonly to prevent them from eating birds that hunters shooting at. To get the latest email updates from South Yorkshire Live, click here . Adam Davies, a Moorland Monitors community volunteer, told YorkshireLive that wildlife crimes had been soaring during lockdowns, and there are hundreds of wire snares across the Peak District national park. He said: "The gamekeepers say the snares are set for foxes, but in reality, they don’t discriminate.

." People and other organisations joined Moorland Monitors on the social media platforms to express their anger over the latest pictures showing wild animals who have been killed. Mr Davies said while the local authorities and the police had already been notified in the past, there is not enough to be done about the matter. He said: "Snares are banned in all but five European countries because they cause such immense suffering. "The UK needs to ban them too. Snares may be set legally (free-running) or illegally (self-locking) – both have been found in the Peak District. "The persistent lack of compliance, regulation and enforcement indicate that snare users have no respect for animal welfare and the scale of suffering is truly unjustifiable."
