PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Fans will be allowed back in sports stadiums no earlier than 17 May, the government has said. The announcement is being made by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson as part of his 'roadmap' out of the current national lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus. It means football supporters may be able to watch the final game of the Premier League season from the stands. Manchester City, who are odds-on favourite for the title, are at home to Everton on 23 May, while Manchester United are away at Wolves. Football has been without supporters for most of the season. A handful of clubs were briefly allowed to have fans back for a few weeks in December before England went back into tighter restrictions. . The third step on 17 May will see the resumption of large events including sporting fixtures. According to the government's roadmap report, 'controlled indoor events' can resume with a capacity of up to 1,000 people or 50 per cent of a venue's capacity, whichever is lower. For outdoor events it will be a capacity of 50 per cent of the venue or 4,000 people, whichever is lower. Manchester United fans will be allowed to return to stadiums from May 17. The Government will also make a special provision for large, outdoor, seated venues where crowds can be safely distributed, allowing up to 10,000 people or 25 per cent of total seated capacity, whichever is lower. In addition, pilots will run as part of the Events Research Programme to examine how such events can take place without the need for social distancing using other mitigation such as testing. The rule on large, outdoor, seated venues would suggest that up to 10,000 fans could therefore be allowed at the Etihad Stadium for Man City's final game of the season.
