Neighbours described their shock following the incident on Southlea Road in Withington at around 11am on Tuesday (November 22). Police said the teenager was the victim of a 'serious assault'. Residents said he was knifed, but this has not been confirmed by police. "Officers attended the scene, and a teenage boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries," GMP said in a statement. Neighbours watched on as police vehicles arrived to the scene and a cordon was erected. They spoke of their shock after an air ambulance landed. A person who lives nearby, who asked not to be named, said: "It is shocking as it is right near a school and around the time the nursery children are walking home." Ladybarn Primary School is less than 350 metres away. A man said he didn't see what happened, but heard something 'kicking off' at around 11am, adding: "It’s not nice, this is usually a quiet area.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We responded to a police incident on Southlea Road following a call at 11.38am and sent an ambulance, response vehicle, air ambulance and a Hazardous Area Response Team member.
