PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! There is a tedious trend ahead of any new season regarding the players who 'could be like new signings' under the guidance of a new manager. At Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag will inherit former Ajax star Donny Van de Beek, who could be likened to a new signing under his old boss, while the same can be said of young hopeful James Garner after an excellent loan spell at Nottingham Forest. Others might argue that Raphael Varane could be like one if he manages to stay fit for the entire campaign. Meanwhile, a resurgent Marcus Rashford might also fit the bill if he regains confidence and form under the Dutch coach. Anthony Elanga was the biggest success story from Ralf Rangnick’s troubled reign as interim manager, making 27 appearances in total during his breakout season. The 20-year-old earned promotion to the senior Sweden side, netted a Champions League equaliser away at Atletico Madrid and, by the end of the campaign, was as worthy of a starting role as any other forward at the club. Yet this summer, his regular role is no longer such a certainty. Elanga is one of a plethora of inverted left wingers at the club, and in recent weeks he has admitted he prefers playing in that position rather than the vacant right wing role. “With United I play a lot on the right, but now I get the chance to play on the left, that is my favourite position," he recently told Fotbollskanalen. “I can do more there.

.” It means the Swedish starlet will need to do more than Jadon Sancho and Rashford to start there next season, while fellow academy star Alejandro Garnacho is also eager for playing time cutting in from the left wing. This could see Elanga at best as a second or third-choice on the left under Ten Hag and his chances of playing on the right could also diminish if they do indeed push ahead with a deal for Ajax star Antony. Anthony Elanga was one of Ralf Rangnick's key players during his time as interim manager of Manchester United. Could this continue under Erik ten Hag? (Image: Jacques Feeney/Offside/Offside via Getty Images) Throw into the equation the trouble with shifting Anthony Martial this summer, the possible inclusions of Amad and Facundo Pellistri, and despite his enormous talent, Elanga might well struggle to get as much meaningful playing time in the season ahead. The welcome change to the Premier League substitute rules, with five now permitted in every match, should allow for more opportunities from the bench, but Elanga is not the only young hopeful who could benefit from that change. Instead, it might well be Garnacho, Hannibal Mejbri and Shola Shoretire who also get a chance from the bench, a reminder of the fierce competition for places at Old Trafford heading into the new season. All of them should get a chance to prove themselves in pre-season, but with plans to add at least another senior attacker to the squad this summer, Elanga might not have the most obvious progression pathway. After a stellar season, the Swede can no longer be judged with the lenience of an up and coming youngster and, with mentor Rangnick no longer at the club, he faces the toughest test of his career so far. Ten Hag’s commitment to youth should give Elanga the belief he can play regular football next season. Now it is down to him to prove why he really deserves it.
