Sullivan went on to play 340 games for Hull, scoring 247 tries, before moving to Hull KR, where he scored a further 118 tries in 213 appearances.He was first selected for Great Britain in 1967, and played 17 games for his country, with 13 tries. He captained the side to World Cup glory in 1972, scoring a try in each of Great Britain’s four games, including a length of the field dash in the final against Australia.After retiring, Sullivan had a stint as a coach for Hull FC – before the team unexpectedly called him back to compete once again as a player at the age of 39.LegacySullivan died from cancer in 1985, when she was just 42 years old.He had become so important to the city of Hull that is named its main approach road Clive Sullivan Way.Since 2001, the Clive Sullivan Memorial Trophy has been awarded to the winner of the derby match between Hull FC and Hull KR.The Google Doodle message says: “Happy birthday, Clive Sullivan – Thank you for breaking barriers and opening doors for generations to come.”
