PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Ukrainian refugees could “in theory” be deported to Rwanda under the Government’s plan to deter Channel small boat crossings by targeting people who make the journey, Boris Johnson has conceded. But the Prime Minister insisted it was “very unlikely” as there are safe routes for refugees from Ukraine to reach the UK, via the Ukrainian Family Scheme and the Homes for Ukraine scheme, which have already helped resettle thousands. There is little evidence that Ukrainians have been using the small boats route. However, if a refugee from Ukraine wants to come to the UK and they do not have family here, or cannot get a sponsor to offer them accommodation, they will not be able to enter the country successfully via the Government’s safe and legal routes. Those eligible have also revealed bureaucratic difficulties in getting visas, and there have been reports of relatively small numbers of Ukrainian refugees gathering at Calais, where asylum seekers often begin attempts to cross the Channel.Mr Johnson’s comments could raise questions about whether a handful of Ukrainians could end up being caught in the Rwanda deportation plan like Afghans, who were among those initially marked for removal on the first flight that was grounded this month by a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights. The Government claimed it was legitimate to include Afghans in the Rwanda scheme as they have safe routes to come to the UK and so do not need to cross the Channel in small boats. But the Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme (ACRS), which aims to resettle up to 20,000 people over the next few years, is yet to begin taking people from the country or the region surrounding it and is currently focused on giving status to the thousands evacuated last summer as Kabul fell to the Taliban.

.He replied: “The only circumstances in which people will be sent to Rwanda would be if they come here to the UK illegally, and thereby undermine the safe and legal routes that we have. “I think we are giving 130,000 visas to Ukrainians and they have at least two very good routes for coming to this country. “But if you come here illegally, you’re undermining all those who, who come here legally. And it’s crazy. “So I’m afraid the answer is I suppose, yes, in theory that could happen but I think it’s very unlikely.”Rwandan Government spokeswoman Yolande Makolo told reporters her nation would be ready to accept Ukrainians.“We are prepared to welcome anybody,” she said.
