PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross hit the campaign trail in Renfrewshire North and West in a bid to boost candidate Julie Pirone's election chances. As polling day draws ever closer, the pair were out and about in Renfrew over the weekend as Mrs Pirone continued her fight to become the constituency's first Tory MSP. Since the seat was first created in 2011, it has belonged to former SNP MSP Derek Mackay, who was the subject of a scandal at the start of last year as it emerged he had hounded a 16-year-old boy with hundreds of messages on social media. Despite being suspended by the SNP and stepping down as finance secretary, Mr Mackay has remained an MSP and continued to collect his salary while opting not to appear in any Holyrood debates. The SNP's investigation into him was never concluded and he quit the party earlier this year. Now Mrs Pirone is attempting to win over the hearts of voters as she tries to see off competition from the nationalists' Natalie Don, Labour's Johanna Baxter, Liberal Democrat Ross Stalker and Martin Bell of the Scottish Family Party. "It was great to be out with Julie in Renfrew as we get closer to polling day," said the Tory leader. "Voters in Renfrewshire North and West have been left without representation for more than a year. By voting for Julie they are guaranteeing a strong local voice who will be 100 per cent focused on the area's recovery from the pandemic.

After voters have cast their ballots on Thursday, the result for the Renfrewshire North and West constituency is expected to be announced on Friday evening. Mrs Pirone, who was formally a Labour supporter, said after a challenging campaign she would love to continue speaking up for residents in Holyrood as an MSP. She said: “It was fantastic to have Douglas alongside me on the final Saturday of the campaign. “This campaign has been different due to the restrictions in place, but it is clear voters here want to focus on our recovery. “I’ve already spent the last few months standing up for communities on the issues that matter to them. I’d be honoured to build on that as Renfrewshire North and West’s next MSP. “Voters here can send a strong message on Thursday that they want to focus on day-to-day issues such as supporting pupils catch up on lost learning and delivering fair funding for our councils. “A vote for me guarantees a 100 per cent focus on rebuilding our communities."
