The rise in the number online and telephone scams reported across the region during lockdown has sparked a four-week action plan aimed at raising awareness and protecting potential victims. With criminals becoming more and more sophisticated in their methods, cops say people need to be ultra vigilant at all times. The month-long campaign aims to provide people with information on the types of scams and schemes deployed by callous crooks, including online, on the phone and in person. In recent months the Express has reported several serious incidents, including a Linwood pensioner who was duped into handing over her bank details to a conman who then stole £53,000 from her. This incident, is one of many which police in Renfrewshire are determined to prevent from happening again.
