Cycling in the county is a topic we frequently debate here at CambridgeshireLive - especially after the city was named the cycling hotspot of the UK. With hundreds of cyclists making use of our roads, Cambridge County Council have launched a scheme to encourage more people to hop on their bikes. Last week Cambridge County Council launched its Active Travel programme in an attempt to encourage walking and cycling across Cambridgeshire. Part of the scheme will include lower speed limits in certain areas, as well as delivering more cycle lanes in the coming months. Other changes that will be coming to the city itself is a permanent change of priority in Silver Street to improve cycle and pedestrian safety. However, most of the changes proposed will be coming to other areas of the county - including restrictions to through-vehicles in Chesterton and two-way cycling in Huntingdon.
