PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Fore left. Fore right. The two-way miss is golf’s nuclear meltdown and very much the fate of Rory McIlroy, who even managed to hit his watching father, Jerry, with a wild approach at the seventh hole on the opening day of the Masters. At least Dad did him a favour, the ball rebounding off his calf back towards the fairway. McIlroy was in a sense revisiting the scene of his worst nightmare if not quite a reprise of the catastrophe that befell him a decade ago when a four-shot overnight lead on Saturday evaporated on the back nine on Sunday.  i's fantasy football tips newsletter: get aheadEmail address is invalidThank you for subscribing!Sorry, there was a problem with your subscription. That unravelling began on the tenth, and gathered pace rapidly in the context of a tournament seemingly won slipping inexorably from his grasp. Here there was not the same emotional penetration. More an expectation disappointingly fulfilled.  Show allMcIlroy’s game has deteriorated to such a degree he has added a second coach to his team, Pete Cowen now supervising the reconstruction of his swing with Michael Bannon bound by Covid restrictions to remain in Ireland. McIIroy was in the water on 11 and 13, the latter after finding Rae’s Creek from the right edge of the fairway. The former was more understandable, coming as it did via a shot from the pine needles courtesy of a flail right off the tee. The approach at the 13th was an ugly chunk that ended with his head in his hands. Ten years earlier on this very hole McIlroy’s cranium was propped up by an outstretched arm resting on his driver after finding the same geographical feature off the tee.It was the moment that captured the scale of the trauma. He would go on to shoot 80 that day, finishing ten shots behind winner Charl Schwartzel. He was just 21, his career all before him. He would rebound within a matter of weeks to win the US Open by a record margin. He thought then that there would be many more opportunities to recover the lost opportunity at the Masters and was buoyed by a willing consensus that maintained his game was just too good not to win a Green Jacket.  Day 1 leaderboard (As of 11pm, * denotes still playing) -7 – Rose-3 – Harman, Matsuyama-2 – Zalatoris, Simpson, Bezuidenhout, Reed-1 – Kim, Kokrak, Hatton* Friday’s TV coverage will start with featured groups coverage from 2pm on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Masters, and full coverage from 7.30pm He has flirted with the top of the leaderboard, recorded a few top fives and tens, played in the final pairing with Patrick Reed in 2018, but never threatened to overwhelm the opposition as he has in the past. The magic has gone. For how long is the question?  There is perhaps comfort in the form of Jordan Spieth, who emerged from a four-year slump to claim his 12th PGA Tour victory in Texas last week.Spieth fell from world No 1 after his victory at the 2017 Open Championship to 92 in January of this year with a missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. Spieth never had the same expansive gifts as McIlroy.

.  Birdies at the par-5s eight and 15 offered some succour. The course was not welcoming.Already hard and fast, Augusta was buffeted by a stiffening breeze as the day wore on. When McIlroy signed for a 76 only a dozen players were in red numbers. The three-under-par 69s of Hideki Matsuyama and Brian Harman led in the clubhouse, giving McIlroy every encouragement on day two if he can summon something of his best, to which he hinted over the closing holes. Lee Westwood also had a difficult morning, limiting the damage to 78 with birdies, a la McIlroy, at the eighth and 15th, but there was at least late joy for the British hopefuls: Tommy Fleetwood bagged his second ace in as many weeks with an inch-perfect approach to the 16th, the 23rd in Masters history, but the more robust challenge came from Justin Rose. The man who has finished second here twice but never been fitted for a Green Jacket produced the round of the day, ending with lead of four and a round of 65 despite having been +2 after seven holes.Defending champion Dustin Johnson had only four bogeys all week in November en route to his record, 20-under-par victory. A three-hole finish of bogey-par-double left him five back on two over par.  “I would have like to have finished better. Felt like a played pretty well just didn’t score great. But the course is playing difficult,” Johnson said. “Two over is not a terrible score today. I’ll just have to play better.” Amateur champion from Bristol Joe Long walked off the last with a birdie. Sadly it would be for an 82 to prop up the field. Former champion Sandy Lyle was only one better at nine over par, one ahead of US Amateur champion Tyler Strafaci.  Among the afternoon starters Bryson DeChambeau’s failure to master the Masters continued. Four over par through eight holes was not part of his plan.Mind you the drive at the ninth was suggestive of the secret weapon of which he spoke beforehand, the ball carving a preposterous arc beyond the trees to leave him with a pitch to the green. He would need plenty more of that on the back nine to save the day.
