In recent years, Ty DeLorean has been constructing his own type of DeLorean using the body of a three-wheeled Reliant Robin.He also has a steady production line of increasingly outlandish claims about his business ventures, most recently stating the Taliban government in Afghanistan wanted to mass produce his vehicles.Ty, whose birth name is Benjamin Granger, is now facing around £20,000 in legal fees and a possible prison sentence if he doesn’t remove the DeLorean trademarks on his vehicles.John DeLorean first brought his factory to Belfast in 1978, but the company collapsed four years later after being propped up by around £77m of taxpayers’ money.The company name was later bought over in 1987 with the owners now based in Texas.Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Ty said he is not worried by the setback and is about to fly to Hollywood for talks with Netflix to produce a biopic about his life.He evens shared that none other than Depp, fresh from his own legal battle, is interested in making his acting comeback by playing Ty in the lead role.Mel Gibson, he claims, is also interested in taking on the role of John DeLorean.Reported by , the DeLorean Motor Company hand-served Ty papers stating they were pursuing him court for trademark infringement.In court, Ty claimed that his price tag for his vehicles was £20,000 was meant to be “humorous”.

.In his findings, High Court Judge Hacon told him “parody isn't a defence” for trademark infringement, and that his use of the word DeLorean was “plainly similar, such as to cause confusion”. He was also told he could keep his cars on the condition he removed their trademarks and pay DMC’s £20,633 legal costs.Asked about the ruling, Ty said: “My spirits couldn’t be higher. I’m off to catch a flight to Hollywood.”He said an associate in the film industry had set up meetings with Netflix to make a film about his life.“The person who is paying for it is also a direct friend of Johnny Depp and he says he wants to play me,” he said.“Mel Gibson wants to play John DeLorean, my father. I’ve set it up to knock it out of the park really, it’s only a matter of time.“But we're at the point of 'show me the money’. Once that first dollar goes in my pot, there will just be a cataclysmic avalanche of money because apparently every producer from here to Timbucktoo want a piece of it.”" , "isAccessibleForFree": "False", "hasPart": { "@type": "WebPageElement", "isAccessibleForFree": "False","cssSelector": "#flip-pay"} }
