Thirty-one-year-old Thomas Corcoran had only been speaking to the victim for a couple of hours before he decided to attack her in her home. Corcoran from Milliners Way, Luton, pleaded guilty on October 14 and was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Monday, November 21. He was later served a postal requisition charging him with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. The victim, in her thirties, and from Fenland, was sent a Facebook friend request from Mr Corcoran on August 6 last year. She decided to accept the request. The pair began flirting and talking about Corcoran, who lived in London at the time, who said he would travel some distance to visit her. The woman believed Corcoran was joking, but soon discovered he was en-route.

.30pm and the pair started drinking, but things took a turn when Corcoran refused to leave her house. The woman called 999 but this triggered a violent reaction from Corcoran. Smashing a bottle of beer against the wall, he stabbed her in the neck and arm using the broken bottle. He also kicked her in the head while she was on the floor. When police arrived, Corcoran initially claimed he lived at the house. However, when he refused to cooperate he was arrested. Police made their way into the house, and found the victim covered in blood - she was taken to hospital. In his police interview, Corcoran gave a written statement in which he denied attacking the woman. He claimed the woman had turned violent on him, but officers could find no record of this call. He then answered, “no comment” to most other questions.
