John Lewis currently has 42 stores nationwide. Last year, the business announced a £635million loss, with the pandemic devastating sales. 1,300 jobs were lost last July when the department store announced eight store closures. Peterborough's branch was initially earmarked for closure before a public outcry led by local MP Paul Bristow helped to overturn the decision. John Lewis, which also owns supermarket chain Waitrose, is also in the process of cutting a further 1,500 head office jobs.
