PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A Green MSP is expected to be a candidate to become the next Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament. It is understood Alison Johnstone, who represents the Lothians, will stand for the high-profile post later today. The Presiding Officer is effectively the chair of the Parliament and the equivalent of the Speaker in the House of Commons. The £112,919 a year post involves ensuring Holyrood debates and votes go ahead smoothly. Johnstone, an MSP since 2011, was initially not minded to go for the job but a Holyrood source said she has changed her mind. If elected, she would be the Parliament’s second female presiding officer after Tricia Marwick. Retiring MSPs complained that issues such as a lack of virtual voting made it hard for them to juggle family and work commitments. With the SNP falling one short of a majority at the election, a Green MSP would leave Nicola Sturgeon's party and the opposition on 64 votes each.
