PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! St Johnstone legend Jim Weir has his fingers crossed that Murray Davidson will return to fitness to play his part at Hampden. The midfielder was expected back in full training by the middle of this week following a calf injury picked up at Ibrox at the start of the month. Hall of Fame star Weir knows what it feels like to miss out on a League Cup final. He was injured for the 1998 showdown with Rangers. He snapped his Achilles the season before and didn’t return in time.  Weir said: “I really hope he makes it back. Murray’s not an angel. He’s a hard but honest player. That’s how I looked upon myself – I’d never go out to injure anybody but I’d look after myself. “I really hope Murray recovers in time. With the service he’s given to St Johnstone and the career he’s had, he deserves to play in a cup final, especially after missing the last one.” On his own final agony, Weir added: “I snapped my Achilles at the end of the previous season in a game against Motherwell.

. “I was doing some sort of training but I wasn’t near to playing a game so there was never any chance of me being fit for the final. “I was sitting just behind the dug-outs and was going crazy when Nick Dasovic scored his goal. The team played really well and were a bit unfortunate to lose it. “We still went out that night and enjoyed ourselves because it was a big achievement getting to the final but it’s obviously not the same when you lose.” Weir admits missing out on the semi-final was actually worse. He was down south at Lilleshall for injury rehab as Saints defeated Hearts 3-0 at Easter Road. He said: “I sat listening to it on the radio because they didn’t have it on the TV down there. “I was in tears. It was tears of joy for the supporters and players but there were also tears for the fact that I wasn’t part of such a big game." Weir has confidence that Saints can get the job done against Livingston and said: "I always felt the team which won the Hibs-St Johnstone tie would be the favourites to win the cup. I think they’ve got a great chance.”
