PremierLeague-News.Com - Chris Rock, Jessie Buckley and Ben Whishaw gave brilliant performances in this fourth instalment of the dark comedy
PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Kansas City, 1950, and there was a new gang on the block. The opening episode of series four of Fargo, Noah Hawley’s slick anthology series, charted what happened when the area’s ruling Italian mob were confronted with a newcomer African American crime syndicate. Cue bloody massacres, sharp suits and about 50 per cent more testosterone than was welcome on a Sunday evening. The show kicked off by introducing a few different story threads. First, we met high school student Ethelrida, who was worried about the lengths to which her parents would go to keep their struggling funeral parlour afloat. Elsewhere, the Italians forged an uneasy truce with the new gang, led by Loy Cannon (played with great swagger by US comedian Chris Rock). Part of this involved them, implausibly, exchanging each family’s youngest son.

.Jessie Buckley was brilliantly subtle and unpredictable as an eccentric, murderous nurse, while Ben Whishaw gave an understated, slippery performance as an inscrutable Irish transplant to the Italian gang. In general though, the opening was weighed down with scene setting and favoured style over substance. There were plenty of shots of flash cars and red blood on white snow, but hopefully future episodes will focus more on exploring the themes of immigration and assimilation that were only touched on here. With the ace cast and intriguing premise, I’ll be tuning in to find out.
