PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! As its public consultation comes to a close, the controversial Ravenscraig freight hub proposal is set to become a major focus of the upcoming election. Scottish Labour’s candidate for the Motherwell & Wishaw constituency, Martine Nolan, has sent to a letter to all the MSP candidates urging them to join her in objecting to the plans. Martine, a safety and environmental engineer, wants to see more jobs and infrastructure in particular in green industry, but insists that in this case the proposals come at the expense of people’s health and safety and displacing existing jobs. The monstrous plan would change the character of the area forever. “Their plans include 800 HGV lorry movements past residential homes every day; breaking promises of a new, safe and sustainable community for local families; displacing existing North Lanarkshire jobs and competing against existing rail freight sites; noise, light and air pollution, not to mention commercial vehicles resting up on local streets and years of construction from 8am to 7pm. “It doesn’t have to be that way. Since the launch of the planning consultation over 340 objections have been made in less than a week. “We demand local voices are heard and this proposal is rejected by councillors and our objections are formally recorded.” Get the latest Lanarkshire news straight to your inbox! . Earlier this week, she tweeted: “I share the serious concerns of Motherwell residents that these RailFreight Hub plans do not fit in with the Ravenscraig Masterplan. “Ensure your voice is heard. The North Lanarkshire Council consultation expires on April 7.”

Conservative candidate Nathan Wilson also represents Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig as a councillor. He said: “The planning proposal that has been submitted to the local authority is classed as a major application and this means the decision on the matter will be taken at a meeting of North Lanarkshire’s full council. “As the Labour candidate is aware, I am also one of the four councillors for Ravenscraig and as such, I will be a participant in the final decision that it is reached on this issue when it gets to full council. “In accordance with the Standards Commission Councillors Code of Conduct on planning matters and underpinned by legislation, I am not able to provide any form of public opinion on the nature of the proposals until this meeting takes place.

“To express a view on the plans in advance of the future full council would prevent me from speaking and voting at the meeting. “This is the same for Ravenscraig’s Labour and SNP councillors who would also have to forfeit their right to participate in the council’s decision-making process on the issue if they were to give an opinion on the proposals at this time.”
