PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! We're almost a year into the pandemic and the on-and-off lockdowns that have followed, but we're finally beginning to see a clear light at the end of the tunnel. With Covid-19 cases and death rates steadily on the decline and clear evidence that the vaccination programme is exceeding expectations, a return to some normality looks a realistic target for the summer. That's good news for football fans who are hoping and praying that pubs, and maybe even stadia, will be open for Scotland's return to the big stage in the European championships. The governments in Holyrood and Westminster, however, have taken drastically different approaches in terms of what comes next. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has urged caution, reluctant to offer false promises and raise hopes for things which may not come to pass. But how do the grand plans in England compare to what is currently on offer for Scottish fans? We've taken a look. April 25 (Image: Offside via Getty Images) While the UK Government's plan for the return of fans doesn't officially start until 17 May, reports in England suggest that the EFL Cup Final between Manchester City and Tottenham - due to take place on 25 April - is being lined up as the first football test event. If approved, there could be a strictly limited number of fans at Wembley for the delayed showpiece, which was put back in order to maximise the chances of fans being in attendance. The same weekend will see round 35 of Scottish Premiership fixtures take place. The Scottish government have outlined 'the final week in April' for a return to tiered restrictions, but this is likely to come too soon for fans to return to SPFL matches. May 15 - Scottish Premiership final day The Scottish Premiership season draws to a close on May 15, and with Scotland expected to have returned to a tiered system by this point, there could be limited attendances at matches in Tier 1 and 2 areas. Ross County were allowed 300 fans back in November due to Dingwall's low prevalence. But there is no fixed plan in place to allow fans to return across the country - it will all depend on case numbers in each council area. That is expected to be used as one of the final trial events before the planned return of fans across the country two days later - though we do not yet know how many fans, if any, will be in attendance. May 17 - English stadia reopen A significant date on the English football calendar, May 17 is the date that outdoor stadia are planned to reopen to up to 10,000 fans. In stadia with capacities of 40,000 or less, that would be scaled back to 25 per cent of their maximum attendance.

But there are no current plans to have fans at Hampden for that one - we will need to wait and see what Sturgeon announces closer to the time. By this point Scotland is expected to have been back in tiered restrictions for over six weeks, so there is some scope for Glasgow to have been moved down into a lower tier. There is no word yet whether visiting fans will be given an allocation. Fingers crossed! June 22 - Croatia v Scotland, Czech Republic v England, June 19 is the date being marked in calendars all over England, because that's the date PM Johnson has given to have England fully exit lockdown. That means no masks, no social distancing restrictions, and a packed out Wembley for their final Group D match with the Czech Republic. Meanwhile at Hampden, there are no plans outlined to have any fans in attendance for the closing group encounter with Croatia.
