PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A burglar who entered a family home with a mallet and two accomplices has been sentenced to 16 years in prison thanks to DNA evidence. David Kinlan, 46, and his accomplices were fought by the father of the family, who managed to disarm them before they fled. The burglars burst into a family home at about 8:50pm on December 20 2019, disturbing a woman in her 50s and her then-teenage daughter who were sitting in the living room on the first floor. David Kinlan and two other men walked up the stairs shouting: “It’s the police, give us your phones, give us your money.” David Kinlan was sentenced to 16 years in prison after appearing at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday June 22. He must serve a minimum of 11 years and nine months before being considered for release, and is also subject to an indefinite restraining order which prevents him from contacting any of the victims. He was pushed onto the sofa while his wife was struck to the head, causing a deep wound. The teenage girl was pinned down by one of the men and managed to get away by kicking out and running upstairs to try to call for help. However, the man caught up with her and dragged her back down the stairs. Her father wrestled hammers from two of the men and pushed them down the stairs, forcing them to flee from the house. He returned upstairs to find the third man going through a wardrobe and forced him to leave the house as well.

After testing, the samples showed as a match for David Kinlan, of Medworth in Orton Goldhay, and his brother, Gerard Kinlan. Both men were arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and possession of an offensive weapon. They denied the charges. David was found guilty following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court in April. Gerard, 39, from Fellowes Gardens in Fletton, was cleared of both charges. Detective Sergeant Tom Hunt, who investigated, said: “This was an horrific ordeal for the family who had their home invaded by masked and armed men. I commend the father who acted so bravely in disarming the men who were posing a threat to his family. “His actions undoubtedly put an end to the violence and in keeping one of the weapons at the scene, we were able to forensically recover evidence which led us to David Kinlan. This type of aggravated burglary is thankfully very rare in our county and the result today shows how seriously they are taken by the criminal justice system.” Read more on Cambridgeshire Live: Read More Related Articles Shocking photo shows motorhome completely gutted by fire in Cambs village Read More Related Articles Cambridgeshire Police 'require improvement' in key areas which could put people 'directly at risk'
