The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a visit to their namesake city today, June 23, to view a new portrait which has been commissioned of the royal couple. The portrait goes on public display for the first time at the Fitzwilliam Museum today. Commissioned by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund, held by the Cambridge Community Foundation, back in 2021, the portrait is a gift to Cambridgeshire. It was painted by award-winning portrait artist Jamie Coreth. People gathered outside the museum on Trumpington Street, having spotted the press presence and groups milling around outside the Fitzwilliam Museum. However, it wasn’t until the Land Rovers turned up in convoy that it became clear just who was visiting our historic city today. Prince Williamand Kate Middleton exited their vehicles to cheers and shouts of “I love you Prince William” as they made their way into the iconic Cambridge museum. They were greeted by Lord Lieutenant Julie Spence, who took them into the museum. Once inside, they viewed their portrait before talking to supporters, including the artist.

. One lucky group of schoolchildren were led up the steps of the museum while the pair were inside. As they left, Kate and Will spent time talking to the children who were seen waving and even dancing with excitement. The Duke and Duchess made their way along the group of excitable children, and were seen getting to their level. Prince William looked sharp in a navy blue suit, while Kate followed the colour scheme with a light blue duster jacket and blue patterned dress. There was plenty of cheering as the royal couple left, taking a second where they could to wave to supporters. The pair will also be attending Cambridgeshire’s first County Day later on today at Newmarket Racecourse, as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
