PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! The Netflix mystery and sci-fi period drama, 1899, has perplexed viewers with its mind-bending ending. The eight-parter follows the fate of immigrants on the steamship Kerberos, as they travel from London to New York. They get caught up in a mysterious riddle after finding another vessel, Prometheus, adrift on the open sea.The series was created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the brains behind hit German science-fiction thriller, Dark. Here is what we know of the show’s ending. What is 1899 about? The complex slow-paced mystery series, which sailed onto the streaming service on Thursday 17 November, is set in the last year of the 1800s. It opens as “a migrant steamship heads west to leave the old continent,” the Netflix synopsis states. “The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, [are] united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. “But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they discover another migrant ship, Prometheus, adrift on the open sea. What they will find on board, will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.”Note the nod to Greek mythology with Cerberus/Kerberos the three-headed guard dog who prevents the dead from escaping the underworld, and Prometheus who steals fire from the gods and is punished with eternal torment. There is travel through time and space as well as secret portals and light references to pro-immigration politics. As Screen Rant concludes: “With each episode, 1899 sails into a multitude of sci-fi concepts and narrative devices without offering a clear explanation for any of them. To add another layer of intrigue and drama, 1899 ends each episode with a puzzling cliffhanger…” More from TelevisionHow many hours ahead of the UK the World Cup hosts Qatar are and kick-off times explained21 November, 2022Strictly Come Dancing results in full and who was voted off21 November, 2022Who left the jungle last night? . Everything about the characters from how they look to the memories they have been simulated. In earlier episodes, we were led to believe Maura’s father, Henry Singleton (Anton Lesser) is the creator of the simulation but it transpires that it is in fact the handiwork of Maura. Desperate to “preserve” her son, Elliot, she creates a simulated virtual playroom where she and her husband can spend time with their son who is dead in the real world. It is not explained how this simulated playroom grew to be so vast and so complex or how her father got involved with it and gained access. But somehow he does and misuses his daughter’s technology to create more simulations inside his own simulation which is studying the depths of the human brain. Henry takes this a step too far, however, by including his daughter and her family in his experiments. Given that Maura elected to erase her memory to deal with the death of her son is at once exploited by Henry but also likely to work disastrously against them. Why? Because only Maura has the code to escape the simulations. Plundering Greek mythology for the naming of each of the ships, now appears to make some sense as we are confronted with the potential for the endless torment of being stuck in a simulated loop.Creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar told Deadline Hollywood that there could be a second season, but it may not be for a while. So hopefully enough time to understand just what went on in series one.Who stars in 1899?
