PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! He's taken part in two Super League Grand Finals, represented England and played in the NRL, but Joe Burgess is taking nothing for granted at Salford. Despite being handed the number five jersey for the 2021 Super League campaign, the 26-year-old is refusing to think he'll automatically be one of Richard Marshall's starting wingers. "I know that Salford isn't seen to be as big a club as Wigan, but with the team we've got here, I still think it's a challenge to secure a spot in the team," said Burgess. "I'm not seeing it as I'm going to waltz straight in. It's a challenge to get my spot." The Rugby League World Cup at the end of the year looms large on the horizon for many players, but it's not something Burgess is worrying about - despite his desire to add to his three international caps. "In the last few years, I've always thought about working towards England, but I'm not even thinking about that this year. "I'm just thinking about getting a spot in the Salford squad and enjoying playing rugby again. "If I'm playing well for Salford and I'm enjoying it, [England selection] will take care of itself. I don't even want to think about it, because that's where I'm at my worst if I'm overthinking things. "I'm quite a laidback person, but the times I do overthink things, it messes things up.

. "It's a business at the end of the day," he said. "I wasn't exactly playing my best rugby league just before the first lockdown and I was sort of stressing over contracts at the time, so that wasn't helping. "Lockdown happened and I got told quite early on that Wigan was allowing me to look for another team. "I spoke with Ian Watson at the time who - not got me to Salford - but opened my eyes and showed me it's not the end of the world if I'm not playing for Wigan. "Now that I'm at Salford, I'm really enjoying it. It's a change of scenery and a good bunch of lads." They're among a number of ex-Warriors now at the AJ Bell Stadium and the transition to a new club has been eased by the amount of familiar faces. "When you get introduced to new players, everyone's got different attributes, so it does take a little bit of getting used to on the rugby side, but I have played with quite a few of the players in this team, so that helps. "On the other side of it, getting to know new people, I don't mind it - I could talk to anybody, to be honest. "When I went to Australia, I didn't know anybody over there, but I like to think I fit in with the lads."
