A dangerous driver going more than 40mph over the speed limit injured 13 people, including five children, when he crashed his car in Leeds city centre. Kamran Khan, 29, was jailed for three years this month after pleading guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, West Yorkshire Police said. Today, the force released CCTV footage of the horrifying collision he caused. Khan, of Markham Avenue, Leeds, was driving down Regent Street at more than 40mph over the speed limit on September 29 in 2019 when he smashed his Audi RS6 into a turning Peugeot. The collision sent the other vehicle spinning across the road and into a UCKG church building. Terrifying CCTV footage shows the moment the car crashed through the doors, propelling three people stood on the pavement outside into the building. Five people in the Peugeot, including another baby, were also injured in the crash.

He was sentenced to three years imprisonment at Leeds Crown Court and has been banned from driving for six and a half years. PC Steve Harrison, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “While sentencing him, Judge Mairs repeatedly talked about Khan’s flagrant disregard for traffic laws. “On that rainy day back in September 2019, Khan chose to drive over twice the speed limit and caused a crash which injured multiple adults and children. It is sheer luck that only two people were seriously injured and that the consequences were not even more serious."

He added: “Khan has been jailed for his actions and I hope this sends a clear message of the dangers and consequences of driving at excessive speeds whilst under the influence of drugs."
