UK Five defensive midfielders Man United could sign this summer last minute news
PremierLeague-News.Com- Man Utd highlighted their need for a new defensive midfielder in their 4-2 defeat vs Liverpool FC on Thursday night
PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Plans are already well underway as Manchester United look to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window and mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have already moved to sign Edinson Cavani up to a new one-year deal, with attention now firmly on adding a new centre-back in order to strengthen an often shaky defence. United are also interested in adding another wide man in the off-season if the right player becomes available - Jadon Sancho, this means you. However, there is an argument to suggest a new specialist defensive midfielder would be the wisest addition as United look to add protection to a defence which is often exposed by a lack of cover from the players in front of them. In spells this season United have demonstrated irresistible attacking performances and solid defensive work, so perhaps adding a long-term successor to Nemanja Matic should be the priority for Solskjaer and his staff. But who are the options available in the summer? MEN Sport take a look at five of them. United might hope they could use loanee Jesse Lingard as part of a swap-deal for the England international, however it makes little sense for West Ham to lose arguably their best player in such a transfer. The Manchester Evening News revealed back in March that Rice spoke to Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw about United when away on international duty, while a mooted move to Chelsea all but ended when admirer Frank Lampard was sacked. Rice could be an ideal fit for United's new pressing style under Solskjaer given his intense work rate coupled with the fact he is so comfortable with the ball at his feet. Ndidi, 24, is one of the best in his position within the entire division and has already proven himself to be exceptional at breaking up play and offering a true anchor in midfield. The Nigerian international would tick almost every box in terms of a defence-minded specialist, although such expertise comes at the cost of his distribution skills and limited passing range. Ndidi could well be the most expensive option on the list, but given his young age could also be an investment which pays off in the long run given his undeniable talents.

. Camvinga, 18, would tick every box of United's youth recruitment policy under Solskjaer and would have the perfect mentors in both Matic and compatriot Paul Pogba to take his game to an even higher level. His form has dropped off a little following his immense breakthrough and the scrutiny of a move to Old Trafford might yet be too much too soon for the mobile midfielder. His agility and dribbling ability make him arguably the weakest defensive specialist on the list, but he might still appeal to Solskjaer if he wants more fluidity in his midfield rather than a deep-lying static option.

Yves Bissouma One player who would scratch the itch for better ball-winning in midfield would be Brighton star Yves Bissouma. The 24-year-old is being linked with a high-profile move after another fine season on the South Coast with Liverpool and Arsenal both strongly tipped with a potential transfer. Bissouma can play as part of a midfield axis and has limited experience playing in a deeper role on his own. The Mali international is one of the best tacklers in the Premier League and is particularly skilled at breaking up play in a similar way to Fernandinho at Man City. His eagerness to dribble with the ball and fire shots at goal gives him an extra string to his bow, but again there have to be doubts over his ability to make such a step up to United.

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is a wildcard option to Solskjaer and could be available for a very reasonable price following relegation from the English top-flight. Anguissa, 25, has showcased a tremendous work rate throughout the season and would certainly buy into the high intensity work ethic which United are instilling into their squad. The Cameroon international is perhaps more of a box-to-box option rather than a specialist holding midfielder and would need an appropriate partner to help him in regards to winning back possession. With funds likely to be stretched across strengthening a number of areas in the pitch this summer Anguissa could well be the ideal short-term fix at a low price, but might not be the long-term solution required.
