PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A businessman died of a suspected heart attack at the wheel after his car was allegedly attacked, an inquest has been told. Peter Cordwell, 48, died following the reported incident at Collop Gate Farm in Heywood, Rochdale, shortly before 11.15pm on October 28. Police were called to the scene following reports of a burglary. He was treated by paramedics at the scene, but died later. An inquest has been opened into Mr Cordwell's death. A preliminary hearing at Rochdale Coroners' Court today (Tuesday) heard brief details of the case. Police coroners' officer Jane Scullion confirmed Mr Cordwell died at Fairfield General Hospital on October 28 last year. He was married to Sharon Cordwell, 50, a company director. Mr Cordwell was a demolition contractor, the court heard. When he arrived at the farm, the court heard he was allegedly 'confronted by a group of males'.

He lost control of the vehicle after a short distance on Manchester Road, where his son applied the hand brake and the vehicle came to a stop, the court was told. Paramedics were called, followed by police a short time later, and they carried out CPR, but he could not be revived and he was taken to Fairfield General Hospital, the court was told. Assistant coroner Lisa Judge adjourned the hearing until February 26, when a date for an inquest proper will be discussed. Following his death, hundreds of tributes were paid to Mr Cordwell, known affectionately as 'Creamy'. He was Director of Spodden Mill Ltd in Heywood according to Companies House and a former Director of PGC Demolition. He was one of the owners of the farm on Manchester Road. Ahmad Mirza, of Norris Street, Lincoln, 25, has been charged with three counts of attempted section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; one count of violent disorder; and one count of possession of an offensive weapon in connection with the death. He is to face a trial at Manchester Crown Court.
