PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! It says a lot about the Terriers’ struggles in front of goal this season that a player who missed over half of the season is currently on course to finish as their joint-top goalscorer. Short of a hat-trick for Fraizer Campbell, Josh Koroma or ideally both away to Reading on the final day, Huddersfield Town will end the season without a single player who has reached double figures of goals. Town did the same in both Premier League seasons, with Steve Mounie scoring nine times in 2017/18 and January signing Karlan Grant finishing as top scorer the following season with four. If Koroma and Campbell fail to add to their current tallies of seven goals each, they will sit just behind Grant as both the second-lowest-scoring top scorers in any single Town season, tying with Harry Wallace in the very first full season in the club’s history in the old North Eastern League in 1908/09. The objective when Carlos Corberan joined the club was to develop a style of play that would get more goals out of the team as a whole, and that was always likely to spell a move away from the over-reliance on Grant that held Town back last season. But Town ended up settling back into old patterns with Koroma picking up where Grant had left off and staring to score regularly from the left of a front three.

. But it’s clear that Tow need to improve their supply to the forward line this summer, whether that’s by finding a more reliable creative midfielder than Juninho Bacuna, adding a new goalscorer to the front line, or simply through what will hopefully be less injury-disrupted seasons for key attackers like Koroma and Ward and creators like Pipa and Harry Toffolo. For the time being, though, there is still one added incentive for Corberan as his side as they go into the final game of the season. Since the introduction of three points for a win in 1981/82, the lowest points total Huddersfield Town have previously racked up over a 46-game season and still survived is the 51 they accumulated in 2015/16 and repeated in 2019/20. Town also took 51 points as they finished 17th in the second tier in 1986/87, but that was only a 42-game season. Town’s last two relegations in a 46-game season came after they finished on 48 points in the second tier in 2000/01 and just 45 as they dropped against two years later. Aside from their two years in the Premier League, that 2002/03 relegation season remains the last time Town failed to reach the 50 point mark and the last time they scored fewer than the 48 goals they have netted this season.
