It has not taken long for the rumour mill to go into overdrive. Here are all the players the Owls have been linked with so far as they plot an immediate return to the Championship. Will Boyle Yorkshire Live understands the Owls are big admirers of the Cheltenham Town centre-back. Boyle has played an instrumental role in the Robins winning the League Two title. Preston North, Rotherham United, Charlton Athletic and Fleetwood Town are all reportedly keeping close tabs on the 25-year-old. Boyle moved to the Robins in January 2017 , racking up 163 appearances for the Gloucestershire club, finding the back of the net on 22 occasions. His present deal at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium runs until next summer. Verdict: Defensive reinforcements could be high on the agenda for the Owls if Osaze Urhoghide, Tom Lees and Joost van Aken all depart. Boyle was on Wednesday's books as a youngster before being released at the age of 14. It is unlikely Cheltenham would let him go on the cheap but would Boyle be interested in a potential reunion? Joe Dodoo The forward has been a big hit since joining Wigan Athletic on a free transfer in February following his release by Turkish club Ankara Keçiörengücü. Dodoo played a big part in the Latics beating the drop, hitting four goals and chipping in with three assists in 20 outings. Wednesday are among a clutch of clubs to be linked with Mendes Gomes, including Barnsley, Cardiff City, Hull City, Luton Town, Swansea City, Millwall, Peterborough United, Rotherham and Sunderland. He is also mooted to be on Scottish champions Rangers summer wishlist. Verdict: It will be a tall order for the Owls to get a deal over the line for the highly-regarded 22-year-old. It remains to be seen what sort of price the Shrimpers would demand for Gomes. His current deal set to expire this summer, although the Scottish Sun claims Morecambe do have the option to extend Mendes Gomes contract by another year. Ashley Fletcher Surely not? The centre-forward is searching for a new club this summer after Middlesbrough parted company with him last month. Boro had offered Fletcher, a graduate of Manchester United's youth system, a contract extension earlier in the season but the 25-year-old opted to delay his decision until the end of the campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday fans' Brighton recollections underline club's plight to Dejphon Chansiri
Both Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga were due to become free agents in June but Middlesbrough chief Neil Warnock decided there was no point retaining the pair in his squad for the final three matches of the season. Fletcher cost Boro £6.5m after leaving West Ham United in July 2017. Verdict: It looks a non-starter for three reasons: 1) his wages would be a big issue 2) injuries have plagued him throughout his career 3) would he really want to drop down a level? Liam Delap The Manchester City starlet appears to be a man in demand ahead of the summer transfer window. Wednesday, Derby County, Stoke City, Cardiff City, Middlesbrough, Preston North End, Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town and Gillingham are all said to be keeping an eye on the striker. Delap, the son of former Stoke midfielder Rory, has flourished in first full season at City, which has already seen him make his debut and score for the first team, grab 20 goals in just 18 games to help fire the EDS to Premier League 2 glory and lift the FA Youth Cup.

At 18, Delap jnr already looks the part. Verdict: If the Owls had stayed in the Championship, that probably would have increased their chances of signing the forward on a season long-loan. If City are to loan him out, the likelihood is they will want him to play at the highest level possible. Chuks Aneke The 27-year-old Charlton Athletic striker is reportedly attracting the interest of Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers. Aneke has enjoyed a superb season, bagging 16 goals and three assists in 41 outings as the Addicks agonisingly failed to break into the League One play-offs. The former Arsenal trainee headed to the Valley in the summer of 2019 following a three-year spell with MK Dons. His Charlton deal expires this summer. Verdict: He is exactly the sort of player Wednesday should be looking at to beef up their forward line.
