PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Last year, Keighley Cougars' campaign was indefinitely postponed after two matches. It never restarted. A lot has changed since then, most notably the introduction of mass lateral flow tests and several different vaccines. Head coach Rhys Lovegrove outlined how his side has been preparing and will continue to do so over the coming months, especially with Covid-19 still being present in our day-to-day lives. Speaking on their virtual media day, Lovegrove said: “I enacted a plan that would ideally allow us to start in November and progress until whenever our first game is. I have not changed that plan. I just took the view that at some stage, we’d be able to enact a well thought out plan and I didn’t let the variables change it.” Read More Related Articles World Cup chief Jon Dutton provides update on plans for the competition amid Covid-19 uncertainty Read More Related Articles Fans to be given rugby league feast with Challenge Cup and Championship broadcast details confirmed The game slotted in between now and May 9th is an important one, with Keighley set to challenge London Broncos in the first round of the Challenge Cup. If they overcome the Broncos, they’ll face another tough test, either Sheffield Eagles or York City Knights at home. “We’re taking that [Challenge Cup] in our stride. We’ll be as ready as we can be for that game with the time we have. We’ve got a great group that is working hard outside of the three sessions [a week] we do here. “The tricky bit will be after the Challenge Cup, where there are four to six weeks, but I’ve got a strong competitive squad here that can get reps against each other at training so it’s just a matter of keeping that tempo and progression ready for Doncaster at home." Another concern is the problem surrounding promotion and relegation. Like many players and clubs, he has no idea on the situation at hand. “You’ve probably just touched on one variable that we have zero ability to change or impact.

. We’d take every game as it came, analyse it, learn from it and apply those to our training efforts. Then, we’d go again.” “There’s a lot of decisions going on in the background – there’s a new Sky deal up, the Toronto situation, and Toulouse [and Catalans] are still in France. There are so many variables too; fans, no fans, new rule sets and limited pre-seasons. If you analysed every variable, we’d never get any footy done so we’re just taking each week at a time." The RFL has worked tirelessly to provide a realistic return date for clubs outside the top tier with Sunday, May 9th scheduled for Keighley Cougars’ League 1 opener with Doncaster. No one knows what will happen in the next few months but Lovegrove hopes that, come their return to league action, fans will be in attendance. “It’s an interesting one. Looking at things with a hopeful light, the R rate is dropping, and we’ve got a lot of people vaccinated. The demographic of League 1 and Championship supporters is an ageing one and I’m hopeful that there may potentially be a vaccine passport of sorts, which may allow fans to come in. “The passport would be hugely beneficial for obvious reasons, both for every rugby league club and the game as a whole, and from a spectacle, atmosphere and financial point of view. I’ve got my fingers crossed because we’ve worked really hard and it’s been a long time since we played any footy. “I hope we get fans in some capacity and quickly because it’s a great product here. It’s more important than ever that we get that product shown, and the new rule set should make that product better than ever. “I’ve completely forgot what a gameday was like, but my memory wasn’t good at the best of times anyway! Hopefully we get to skip all the boggy pitches because we get dreadful weather here in February and March anyway.”
