PremierLeague-News.Com - Sheffield United were denied what appeared to be a stonewall penalty when Jayden Bogle was upended by Alphonse Areola and Blades fans were furious with the decision
PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Sheffield United fans were left livid with referee Martin Atkinson for his failure to award a penalty to the Blades late on in their 1-0 defeat at Fulham when Jayden Bogle was clattered by goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. With time ticking away, United 's free-kick from the left was curled in and substitute Bogle arrived late at the far post in an attempt to drive the ball home but was clearly upended by the Fulham shot-stopper. Replays showed that Areola did make contact with the ball but VAR bizarrely chose not to punish the goalkeeper for a reckless lunge on the Blades right-back which left manager Chris Wilder furious after the match. It denied United a route back into the game following Ademola Lookman's opener and the 1-0 defeat leaves the Blades' hopes of securing Premier League survival hanging by a thread. Fans were equally as livid as Wilder and made their feelings known to referee Atkinson and over VAR's failure to correct his decision in their hordes on social media as assistant manager Alan Knill's son led the angry protests. Here's a selection of what fans said. @_Jordz: Someone explain this to me How is this not a red card! @ryanmathews1893: Calvert Lewin gets a penalty for kicking trent but Bogle gets kicked by Areola and it's a free kick to Fulham Read More Related Articles Chris Wilder was 73 minutes too late giving Sheffield United attacking intent in must-win match Read More Related Articles 'Tearing his hair out' - Graeme Souness explains the key reason for Sheffield United's plight @gageykev: Anywhere else on the pitch & any outfield player & that’s a straight red card. Dangerous play! @BladeMarkSUFC: What’s the difference between Lundstrum challenge that led to a red card v Brighton & Fulhams keeper on Bogle tonight ??? @AntSSimo19: Such a poor decision shouldn’t hide the poor performance but Wilder and Souness are right. The non award of a penalty against the completely reckless Areola on Bogle is scandalous #FFCvSUFC #SUFC @gill_carly: Well I fail to see how that is not a pen! Bogle gets to the ball first, keeper then absolutely whacks him just below the knee, oh and gets himself a free kick anywhere else on the pitch and that’s a free kick to us! Gets the ball Touching it first Areola runs and slips and two foots Jayden Bogle Denying him a goal scoring opportunity. Red card and a penalty. Robbed again @chris_dewick: Lucky that challenge on Bogle wasn’t studs up from Areola , could of easily been career ending. Definite penalty. Refereeing in this country is a joke.
