PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Chelsea have raced ahead of Manchester City to now stand in a great position to sign long-term defensive target Marc Cucurella. The 24-year-old had been in advanced talks with the Premier League champions this summer and a deal was expected to be agreed with Brighton, however Pep Guardiola's side backed out of the transfer unwilling to meet the £50m price tag. With Chelsea being long-term admirers of the Spaniard, holding interest in him from his time at Getafe, once talks with Manchester City broke down Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali were alert to the situation and have acted swiftly to put the club in a great position to secure Thomas Tuchel's fourth summer signing. That's despite the Blues reaching an agreement with Aston Villa for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka. The determination to secure moves away for Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta is still a top priority, and Cucurella's arrival would strengthen Alonso's push to Barcelona, as well as contract resolutions to be sought with N'Golo Kante and Jorginho, Chelsea have a big four weeks of the transfer window ahead. Here is the latest on the deal. Cucurella medical 'ongoing' According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Cucurella is currently completing a medical in London ahead of his £52million move. Romano tweeted: "Marc Cucurella is in London as expected since yesterday and he’s now currently undergoing medical tests with Chelsea. "It’s the final step, then waiting for documents to be signed between clubs then join Chelsea. Here we go confirmed." Training exile The Spanish defender has now been exiled from first-team training with the Seagulls with Potter wanting to avoid distractions ahead of Brighton's trip to Old Trafford to start the Premier League season, as per The Athletic. The statement read: "Contrary to inaccurate reports from numerous media outlets this evening, no agreement has been reached with any club to sell Marc Cucurella." "Done deal" Chelsea have reached a full agreement with Brighton for Cucurella, according to Fabrizio Romano. The reporter claims the deal will cost over £50million, with Levi Colwill joining the Seagulls in a separate move.

. Personal terms have been agreed and talks between the clubs are ongoing, Romano reports. Graham Potter's side reportedly want £50million for the defender, and whilst Chelsea are understood to be happy to pay the full price in cash, they are still exploring the possibility of a part-trade to strengthen their offer. Loan leverage Such has been the Todd Boehly way, Chelsea have been looking to leverage their place in the deal by offering their own players in return. football.london understands that a deal to bring Cucurella to Stamford Bridge could be impacted by parallel talks between the clubs for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill. There are reports linking the 19-year-old defender with a loan move to the south coast as well as a permanent deal with a buy-back clause for Chelsea. This could be conflated as there are also sources that claim Leicester have been offered Colwill as part of Tuchel's pitch to prize Wesley Fofana away from the King Power stadium. Manchester City's decisive move Manchester City have also made a move away from the player, finding a separate left-back target, Spanish youth international Sergio Gomez. This is another boost for Chelsea who no-longer have to compete with City, who are thought to have been Cucurella's first choice. Impact on Tuchel's squad If nothing else, securing the £50m transfer for 24-year-old Cucurella would ease Tuchel's mind and also give him extra defensive options. The German is keen to explore the use of a four man defence next season, and although Cucurella was primarily a wingback last season, he is more than capable of playing at left-back, as well as a makeshift winger too. Although any deal would likely come too soon to see him involved against Everton for Tuchel, it would clear up room in his defence and provide serious long-term competition for Ben Chilwell who has looked rusty in pre-season after coming back from a serious injury that curtailed last campaign for the England international. Cucurella is also seen as a candidate for the left centre-back spot as Tuchel tries to fill his defence with flexible and versatile players. This would also allow Chelsea to move on Malang Sarr who is keen on a move back to France this summer, despite strong interest from Fulham. Sarr is another player that could play as a left-sided centre-back but given Koulibaly's presence, Cucurella's adaptability and the pressure of Colwill, it's not a spot that he is likely to play in much this coming season.
