PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! West Ham United boss David Moyes admits that he was surprised to see Jesse Lingard snub a return to the London Stadium this summer to join Nottingham Forest on a free transfer. The former Manchester United midfielder became a free agent earlier this summer after departing Old Trafford and despite strong interest and an offer from the Hammers to re-sign their first half of 2021 loan star, Lingard snubbed interest from Moyes to sign for newly-promoted Nottingham Forest in what is understood to be a lucrative contract. It is believed that Lingard is on a basic salary of £115,000 a week that also includes bonuses, with the midfielder joining Steve Cooper’s side, who has not played in the top-flight for 23 years. READ MORE: Every word David Moyes said on Manchester City, West Ham transfers, Maxwel Cornet and team news Speaking on being turned down by his former loanee Lingard, Moyes admitted that he was surprised that the midfielder did not re-sign for the Hammers this summer. “I was surprised, yeah. I thought Jesse in the end would come here and I've got to say the club made him a really good offer,” Moyes explained. “You couldn't turn around and say David Sullivan and the owners didn't do everything they could to get him. They certainly did. I've got to say the club have tried to get lots of players but for different reasons we've not been able to get them.” Lingard was not the only player to turn down the club this summer following their wage demands. The club also had a bid of around £33.5m accepted for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana, who is set to join Everton. However, the Hammers are believed to have backed away from a deal with Onana demanding a salary five times higher than what he is currently earning at the Ligue 1 club. Speaking generally on the window and the demands of potential transfer targets, Moyes admits he has been shocked by fees that players and agents have been demanding this summer. . Genuine bids and genuine money and different reasons we've not got them. They've not wanted to come to the club or we've not got the financial deal right or we've not been able to pay the player and the agent so one way and another we've found it difficult to be competitive this summer. Hopefully come the end of the window we'll have got ourselves in order. “The difference is we're trying to be in the top six rather than avoid the bottom six. The level of player you're looking to buy, what that costs, harder to get, so what we're trying to do means we're looking at a much more expensive player, on bigger wages, coming from a higher level, so that's what we've found difficult.” While Lingard snubbed what Moyes thought was a very good offer for the midfielder, he has not ruled out the possibility of re-signing the Forest midfielder in the future. Moyes has said that maybe if the midfielder flourished at Forest in this coming season he would remain interested in him, joking that he would be hard to ignore if he scored 25 goals this season. “You never know, it's a difficult question, I don't see how I can answer it,” said Moyes. “If he scores 25 goals next year and does fantastically well, maybe I will. If he doesn't, maybe I won't. “The club made a fantastic offer to Jesse to come back. We would have liked to have had him. But he chose (Forest) and he was entitled to that. He was a free transfer, he was entitled to choose where he wanted to go.” Lingard could make his debut for his new club on Saturday against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with his home debut potentially coming eight days later at the City Ground against the Hammers.
