PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Despite the strong start to life Chelsea have made under the stewardship of head coach Thomas Tuchel, changes are likely to occur at Stamford Bridge this summer. Tuchel took charge in west London towards the end of January, replacing Blues legend Frank Lampard, and has enjoyed a remarkable start to his tenure, losing just three of his first 26 games at the helm. As well as dramatically improving the Blues' results, style of play and togetherness, he has also guided them to both the finals of the FA Cup, which will see them face Leicester City at Wembley tomorrow, and the UEFA Champions League. Considering the German has guided the Blues to two cup finals with the squad that was struggling for form under Lampard, he deserves huge amounts of praise. Tuchel has not yet had the chance to add a single player of his own to his squad, highlighting just how well he has done to get a consistent tune out of the squad he inherited. In recent months it has been heavily documented that Tuchel wants to add a new striker to his ranks, with Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland at the very top of his wish list. But as well as wishing to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Dortmund boss is also keen on strengthening his central-defensive options, according to reports. In recent months, Chelsea have been linked with a whole host of different names, including Bayern Munich duo David Alaba and Niklas Sule, Dayot Upamecano, who will join Bayern from RB Leipzig when the window opens, and Real Madrid's Raphael Varane. However, according to a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea have moved ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Varane. That is because Marina Granovskaia, who is Chelsea's transfer guru, is ready to pay a reported £61million to try and lure the centre-back to Stamford Bridge. Despite being labeled as one of the best centre-backs in the world, £61m could be enough to force Madrid to let go of him because of their financial situation. Although Chelsea are keen to sign Varane this summer, United remain interested as well, with signing a centre-back thought to be at the very top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wish list this summer, as proven during their 4-2 defeat to Liverpool on Thursday evening. But whilst United do remain keen on signing Varane, the Old Trafford club, according to a report by the Mirror, is only ready to lodge a bid of £40m for the centre-back's services, meaning Chelsea are prepared to pay £21m more to win the race for his signature this summer. Considering both sides will be looking to cut the gap on Manchester City next season and launch strong title charges, adding a player of Varane's quality to their respective squads will hand them a significant boost. Recently, Madrid president Florentino Perez suggested that he would be open to letting Varane leave this summer if he did not want to remain at the club. “Varane? I’m happy with our team... if players don't want to stay at Madrid they can leave," he told Spanish radio channel El Larguero. Varane is out of contract at the Bernabeu in the summer of 2022, meaning Madrid will look to cash-in on him this summer, should they not want to run the risk of losing him for free in 12 months time.
