PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A suspected drink driver claimed he was at a loss to explain why he refused a breath test at a police station. Energy consultant Gary Hoosan was pulled over on a road in North Shields after he was spotted travelling erratically by officers. The 58-year-old was arrested after failing a roadside breathalyser and was taken into custody. A wrap of cocaine was also found in his car. However, police cannot rely on a roadside breath test alone to pursue a prosecution in court and a more accurate procedure must be undertaken at the police station, which also involves a sample of breath. And it was there that Hoosan had a change of heart and refused to give that sample, prosecutors said. He was also banned from driving for 18 months. Prosecutor, Paul Anderson, said Hoosan was spotted by police driving erratically on the evening of July 17 this year. Mr Anderson continued: "The defendant seems to swerve towards the curb but corrects himself. Police pull him over.

." The court heard that Hoosan was arrested after giving a roadside breath test reading of 93mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the legal limit is 35mcg. He was also found to be in possession of the wrap of cocaine. Mr Anderson added: "Initially, the defendant agrees to comply with the procedures at the police station but, when it gets to the relevant point, he refuses to blow and refuses to comply with the breath test. He has a record but nothing since 2004." Magistrates were told that Hoosan had a past conviction for failing to provide but it was 28-years-old. On the evening in question, Hoosan claimed to have fallen asleep after drinking at home but decided to get behind the wheel to get a Chinese takeaway when he woke up. David Parish, defending, said: "For reasons he can't explain, he gets to the police station and changes his mind about complying. That was extremely foolish and stupid and he's deeply sorry and ashamed of his actions. He can't explain them."
