PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Alex Bruce has hit out at 'toxic' critics who have 'had it in' for his dad, Steve, since taking over as Newcastle United manager. The former Hull City defender took to Twitter to congratulate his father after he was named Premier League manager of the Month for April. Bruce Sr came under intense pressure earlier this season after presiding over a run of just two wins in 21 matches, with many calling for him to be sacked as Magpies manager. Indeed, in a survey conducted by Chronicle Live, 95% of over 14,000 Newcastle fans who responded wanted United to make a managerial change in the wake of March's 3-0 defeat to Brighton. Since then, Newcastle picked up two wins and two draws in four matches in April to pull clear of the relegation zone and their Premier League status was confirmed last weekend following a 4-2 win over Leicester. As such, Bruce was named Premier League Manager of the Month for April this afternoon, beating off competition from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Marcelo Bielsa and Sam Allardyce.

. "Well done Dad, and your staff. No matter what has been written by toxic journalists who’ve had it in for you since taking the job trying to stick the knife in," Bruce said on Twitter. "We know what the club means to you, the hours you put in and how proud you are to be Newcastle manager. Good luck tonight." The Magpies will look to build on their recent good form when they take on Premier League champions Manchester City at St James' Park this evening.
