PremierLeague-News.Com - Newcastle United suffered a 3-1 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford and the Magpies are now just three points clear of 18th-placed Fulham in the Premier League table
PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! It was another night where Steve Bruce focused on the positives but with just 13 league games to go, Newcastle United simply need points following another defeat against Manchester United. Newcastle have won just two of their last 16 games in all competitions and although, admittedly, the Magpies have had to play Chelsea and Manchester United in the last seven days, Bruce's side have claimed just six points from a possible 15 in recent weeks - and Fulham have certainly taken advantage. There is no doubting that the black-and-whites are missing Callum Wilson and how Bruce must hope that Allan Saint-Maximin can build on a decent display at Old Trafford on Sunday night. Saint-Maximin, who is Nick De Marco's favourite Newcastle player, was there to volley home the Magpies' equaliser and score his first goal since October. Despite missing so many games through illness and injury, Saint-Maximin has still directly been involved in five goals this season and only Wilson has either scored or assisted more goals for Newcastle. Newcastle did cause Manchester United problems with some clever set-piece routines in the first half - going short and then swinging the ball back into the box - but once the Red Devils limited the amount of corners they gave away, the visitors lacked a threat after the break. Worryingly, Newcastle were undone far too easily at the back and if you can't score goals and keep clean sheets, there is only one way you are heading. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer actually noted that 'since Graeme [Jones] came in, they have a go' and the Manchester United boss believes that 'when you're that positive, you'll get results'. Newcastle certainly need results right now and the next three weeks will make or break the Magpies' season. Bruce's side face Wolves on Saturday before taking on West Brom, Aston Villa and Brighton next month. Steve Bruce, Manager of Newcastle United reacts during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Newcastle United Fulham, in comparison, make the short trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday and then play Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and Leeds. On paper, Newcastle have the more straightforward run of games but that means nothing if the Magpies do not take advantage - and that is far from a given. Newcastle managed to grab a late draw at Wolves in October and a last-gasp win against West Brom in December, but Bruce's side were well-beaten when they played Aston Villa and Brighton earlier in the campaign.

These are the fixtures that will ultimately decide Newcastle's fate - the Magpies have not defeated a traditional big hitter on the road since Bruce's third game in charge - so it's crucial they get something from games against Wolves, West Brom and Brighton in the coming weeks. Also, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Fulham, who have lost just one of their last seven in the league, could pick up points in three of their upcoming five fixtures, particularly given Spurs and Liverpool's struggles of late. While much was made of Fulham's failure to win games, Scott Parker's side have found a way of late and they will believe after reducing a 10-point deficit to just three points in the space of eight days. Newcastle have to respond by getting points on the board - starting with Wolves on Saturday.
