Report: Newcastle send scouts to watch Celtic star According to the Scottish Sun, Newcastle sent scouts to watch Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer at Ibrox on Sunday. The Norway international has been linked with a summer move to Tyneside and the report claims Newcastle sent scouts to run the rule over him in Sunday's 4-1 defeat to Celtic. Despite the Hoops' poor performance the report also suggests Steve Bruce is 'ready to push' the button on a deal for the 23-year-old. Schar's current arrangement with Newcastle comes to an end in June, but the club have the option to extend it. Whether Schar can or will turn that option down remains to be seen but the Swiss star has courted interest from the likes of AC Milan, Lazio and Bordeaux in the past few seasons. The danger for Newcastle is that Schar has a sparkling European Championships with Switzerland and then can leave for free if the deal isn't agreed. That would leave Schar in a powerful position as far as his contract is concerned and the 29-year-old will be looking for a bumper deal as he heads towards the peak years of his career. Schar was shown a red card in the dying stages of his comeback against Arsenal on Sunday, but Bruce said: "With Fab Schar, I think there’s a clause in his contract where we can extend it.
