A blaze at an industrial estate in Gateshead which saw several cars catch fire was started by embers from a flue and log burner, the fire service has said. Crews from Gateshead and Hebburn were called to Felling Industrial Estate on Green Lane at 2.47pm on Monday after reports of a fire. A number of cars were believed to be on fire and there were fears the blaze could possibly spread to a building. On Tuesday, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said they sent two appliances from Gateshead Community Fire Station and Hebburn Community Fire Station to the accidental fire. The fire service said the blaze spread to nearby vehicles, a telegraph pole and waste materials situated at the front of the unit. ." Drivers on the Felling Bypass could see smoke from the blaze. Steven Brown, 43, who saw the smoke, said: "When we were driving along the bypass we could see the smoke and hear the fire engines. "When we got there we could see lots of smoke, there was one crew and we could hear sirens. There were a lot of police and the ambulance crew arrived. "It looked like more than just a building fire.
