PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A woman branded a retired priest a liar and a rapist and told him: "May God forgive you". Father John Clohosey was a curate in Gateshead when he is said to have raped a woman in her own home in 1986 then told her "Goodnight, God bless" as he left. Facing him in court, his alleged victim refuted claims by his barrister that she agreed to his request for sex and branded as "cruel and sick" claims she only made the accusation while trying to get money out of the Catholic church. At one point during her cross-examination at Newcastle Crown Court, the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said towards Clohosey: "May God forgive you. You are a liar as well as a rapist. "That you could stand here with a bible in your hand that you have supposedly lived your life by and lie to save your own skin, may God forgive you." The complainant confirmed she was angry after approaching the church for a loan to meet a large bill she was left with and being refused, saying she felt she had protected the church for years. In an email to her parish priest after her request was dismissed, she said she had been abused by a priest in the past. But she said, at that stage: "I had no intention of standing here today looking at him for the first time in 30 plus years. "I didn't think I would ever find the strength to do what I'm doing today." She added: "Having spent 30 years not speaking it, trying not to think it, the only way I could deal with it was to not deal with it, was to put it in a box in my head with the lid firmly on." However, after making the initial disclosure, she was unable to keep it buried away, she told the court. She said: "After so many years of not dealing with it I could barely think of anything else once I had spoken it. "It would not go back in the box, as much as I tried." She said the first time she knew Clohosey had admitted there had been a "sexual encounter" between them was when she read it on ChronicleLive on Thursday morning. Putting Clohosey's case to her, Robin Patton, defending, suggested the sexual encounter had been consensual and that the priest visited her again a few weeks later. She replied: "That is a lie, that simply didn't happen." Mr Patton went on to ask: "He asked you in a somewhat clumsy fashion to have sex or make love." Fighting back tears, she replied: "There is no love involved in rape." Mr Patton suggested she agreed to have sex and went to the bedroom and got into bed and was followed by Clohosey. The complainant replied: "May God forgive you." Mr Patton said: "Is that a no?" She said: "Yes.

. Mr Patton said: "He was unable to maintain an erection." She replied: "He raped me." Responding to claims she was being dishonest, the woman said: "I'm not. I have nothing to gain and nothing to lose from me standing here telling my story, my journey. This is what I want. "There are no winners and losers in a case like this, just two losers. That's what we are, just two losers. "This has been an incredibly difficult journey to get me to stand here today. "I've so many times nearly pulled out of it but this won't go away and I won't be his victim. "I've got to get rid of it, to deal with it, to speak it, as much as I want these people to believe me. I'm telling the truth, I've nothing much to gain by standing here today but I want to speak it." Mr Patton put it to her: "Do you accept the sexual encounter between the two of you only surfaced when you were seeking to get money from the church?" She replied: "That's more than cruel, that's sick." Mr Patton suggested it would be "profoundly embarrassing" for her if there had been a sexual encounter with a priest. She responded: "Only if it became public knowledge. "If I didn't think this was something that I absolutely had to do for my own sanity, it would have remained a dirty, sordid little secret and this would have come to my grave with me." When Clohosey, 72, was interviewed by police, he denied raping the woman but admitted visiting her and asking for sex. He said she said no five or six times but then agreed to have sex with him. He claimed they went to her bedroom and kissed and cuddled but didn't have sex as his "penis was flaccid". Clohosey, of St Mary's Priory, King Street, Muston, Filey, North Yorkshire, denies rape.
