PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! In 500 days’ time Manchester will be a hive of activity as Women’s Euro 2022 kicks off at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s famous stadium plays host to the opening fixture of the competition on July 6, 2022, after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the UEFA to push it back by a year. Old Trafford and the Manchester City Academy Stadium are two of the nine stadiums across the country which will both host the 31 fixtures for the 16-team tournament before the final takes place at Wembley on July 31. While UEFA were initially disappointed to have to reschedule the Women’s Euros, the dates across July 2022 should allow it to attract more attention. "By moving the competition to 2022, we guaranteed that the biggest women's sports event in Europe receives the exclusive platform it deserves," said UEFA chief of women's football Nadine Kessler. The hope is that the growth of women’s football since the 2019 World Cup, when England reached the semi-finals, will continue apace before the Euros next year. Manchester is the only city, apart from London, which will have two stadiums hosting matches and Manchester FA chief executive officer Colin Bridgford hopes that will help put the city on the map in terms of the women’s game.
