Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say this was officers deterring crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. GMP Transport Unit officers covering the Newton Heath, Clayton and Openshaw areas partnered with Metrolink staff to keep the network safe for users. Posting to Twitter in the early hours of Thursday morning, GMP Newton Heath, Clayton & Openshaw said: "GMP Transport Unit officers patrolling with GM TravelSafe and Metrolink staff in North Manchester this evening to tackle crime and ASB in the area. If you're travelling, stay safe and have a good evening.
