The Prime Minister is expected to make a number of announcements regarding the latest plans for easing lockdown across England. He will confirm the next stage of lockdown easing will begin from April 12, with the reopening of non-essential retail premises, gyms, hairdressers and libraries. The announcement comes after ministers unveiled plans to supply everyone in England with two quick-result tests each week in a bid to cut chains of transmission. Lateral flow tests, which are being widely used in schools, can provide results in as little as 30 minutes, and will be available from April 9. Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove has been leading the vaccine passport taskforce review and, although it is not expected to be finalised until the summer, Mr Johnson has promised an update on the scope of the work. Covid certificates, or passports, are expected to show whether an individual has received the vaccine, has recently tested negative for the virus, or has “natural immunity”, having tested positive in the previous six months.
