The figures, for the seven days to February 16, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people. Of the 315 local areas in England, 26 have seen a rise in case rates, and 284 have seen a fall, whereas four have remained the same. Corby in Northamptonshire has the highest rate in England, with 232 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 16 – the equivalent of 321.2 cases per 100,000 people. Middlesbrough has the second highest rate, down five pc to 317.1, with 447 new cases. Ashfield in Nottinghamshire is in third place, and it’s rates remain unchanged at 286.1 cases per 100,000 people. The highest cases in Greater Manchester are in Bolton, Bury and Tameside, which all have case rates per 100,000 above 200. The list has been calculated by the PA news agency based on Public Health England data published on February 20 on the government’s coronavirus dashboard. Here is the list in full.
