Huey-Dean van Eerde, who fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a train driver 18 months ago, said the transport system in the capital is one of the best in the world. His love affair with the Tube started when he saw a postcard of the Central Line in 1992 and began collecting miniature models. Since then he turned his house into a tribute to all things Tube, complete with Underground-themed pillows, cups, wall art, and even splashed out on a £1,000 on a wooden table shaped in a roundel design. He also has a London Underground-themed Topple Tower game similar to Jenga. Huey-Dean also enjoys reading about the London Underground (Image: Huey-Dean van Eerde) He has been driving trains for 18 months in Amsterdam (Image: Huey-Dean van Eerde) “People find out about my collection and are like, 'you are single right?” he joked, before adding: “I live by myself of course! “It's a free country, it's my life, and I’m healthy and happy.” After starting out with mini train models, he moved onto scarfs, oven mitts, cups, an LED train board announcer, tea towels, bags, slippers and pillows, to name but a few. Keeping his collection current, Huey-Dean has even ventured into Covid-19 facemasks and has coverings in the style of Tube seat patterns - he also wore a themed jumper at Christmas. His table set him back £1,000 including shipping Huey-Dean wears a London transport-inspired facemask to work “I have loved the Underground since I was very young - the history, the architect, it is such a complex and old system and still running today,” he added.

“You walk down some random stairs in London and find yourself at a station. Public transportation is important for big cities”. When it comes to the best line on the Underground, he also has some strong views and his choice is surprisingly modern.

"I really like the Jubilee Line,” Huey-Dean said. “I love how futuristic and modern it is. “The platform-edged screen doors and the sound - ah, it’s pretty beautiful." With a collection approaching 100 items, Huey-Dean says he has spent €3,000, or more than £2,500, on his passion. Though he is concerned about Britain leaving the EU and the extra cost of shipping goods from the UK in a post-Brexit world.
