However, along one road you might be surprised to learn that some of the houses are actually fake. In Leinster Gardens two houses may seem like any other on first glance, but when you take a closer look you’ll notice something is wrong with numbers 23 and 24.

. This is because they are not houses at all, but instead merely a five-story façade. The view from the back looks very different from the front (Image: Metro Centric) The fake house-fronts were installed after the real houses were knocked down in 1868 to provide space for the train line which runs under them. Back in the time of coal-fuelled trains, it was important that the tunnels opened up to allow the engines to release the smoky fumes. However, local residents complained about the gap created, and so a 5ft-thick concrete wall decorated in keeping with the street was built. While passers-by may be fooled from the front, the view from the road behind - Porchester Terrace - gives a clear view of the fake building. This interesting piece of property has drawn a lot of attention over the years from both pranksters using the location to fool others, and even from hit TV shows.
