PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Back in the early noughties, a fiery romance between a Hollyoaks-turned-Holby City actor and an S Club 7 pin-up hit the tabloids. Jeremy Edwards and Rachel Stevens had it all - with some saying they were the Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan of their day - but a heartbreaking tragedy ruined everything. Rachel had fancied X Factor: Celebrity star Jeremy since she'd first set eyes on him on the set of Hollyoaks, as Kurt Benson. Just 18 months later, Jeremy proposed to Rachel on Valentine's Day 2002, over a romantic dinner at The Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair. The then 23-year-old Rachel was 'thrilled to pieces,' and of course said yes. But it was less than a year before the cracks began to show. When Rachel's job with S Club 7 was so demanding that she couldn't even take time off for a wedding, Jeremy opened up to Heat magazine, telling them it was 'impossible'. Jeremy was starring as a care assistant in the BBC's Holby City at the time. He said: "We've got to try and book a holiday today but that means me begging and pleading for time off from Holby. "How can we possibly organise a wedding?" Then something happened which put the pair's wedding plans totally on the backseat. In summer 2003, a crippling tragedy threw the couple completely off course. On June 15 2003, Jeremy's 22-year-old Holby City co-star Laura Sadler fell to her death from the 40 ft balcony of her boyfriend's home in Holland Park, Kensington.

. Jeremy, who was 31 at the time, fell into a downward spiral. "Everybody in the cast is completely devastated and is asking the same question, 'Why her?'" he told the BBC. It was Rachel who ended their relationship, when Jeremy's reliance on drinking to deal with his grief became too much.

Jeremy told Heat: "It was a tough time for me. "After Laura's death I got really messed up. "I was drinking a hell of a lot and got seriously depressed." He said the loss of such a close friend 'pushed him off the rails' and Rachel got caught up in the fallout. "It was at this point she confronted me about my problems and we agreed to have a break," he said. They didn't speak for a month, after which point Jeremy realised 'what his behaviour was making him lose'. He told Heat: "Rachel means the world to me and I couldn't believe what was happening to our relationship. "I needed a serious reality check and that's what I got."
