Russell Stowell, aged 41, of River Gardens, Sutton, left the woman with "significant facial injuries", police said, as he carried out a "frenzied" assault. Stowell denied all the charges against him - but in December, following a trial, he was found guilty of rape, grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding with intent and making threats to kill, and now he has been sentenced. The court heard that on June 1, 2020, at just before half past midnight, police received a call from the London Ambulance Service regarding a woman who had been found with serious injuries at an address in Carshalton. The Metropolitan Police said: "It was established that Stowell had subjected the woman to a brutal and sustained attack, raping her while making threats to kill.
