However, travelling across the city will not be what it once was. Transport For London (TFL) have put rules in place to protect the safety of commuters. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s roadmap out of lockdown sets out the incremental steps that will lead to some form of normality. The next step is on Monday (April 12) when pubs and restaurants serving outside can reopen as planned next Monday, along with non-essential shops, gyms and hairdressers, as England's lockdown is further eased. The government will still urge everyone to stay local, minimise travel and work from home wherever possible.

The general rules for travel are as follows: You must social distance and wear a mask, unless exempt, covering your nose and mouth. You must wear a mask on all buses, trains, tubes, taxis, private hire vehicles and other public forms of transport for the entire duration of your journey. If you do not comply you could be denied travel or receive a minimum £200 fine (£100 if paid within 14 days), which will double each time you are caught without a face covering with a maximum fine of £6,400. TfL also advises to carry hand sanitiser with you. They have added more than 1,000 hand sanitiser points at various points within the network. You should also use contactless payment or Oyster when travelling.
